One of the biggest updates for SolidWorks 2012 is a new capability called Design Costing. This new integrated tool lets you quickly estimate costs for sheet metal and machined components using built-in templates or customized data. You can calculate manufacturing costs throughout design to stay on budget. A few highlights include:

Detailed reporting clearly presents your costs and comparisons for review
Fast "what if" scenarios let you set baseline costs and then evaluate alternatives
Fully automated with fast updates so you can immediately evaluate materials and vendors
Assembly cost roll-up helps you quickly identify costly parts and evaluate manufactured versus purchased items
Built-in template editor for easy setup of operation pricing
