What should I do before I upgrade to SolidWorks 2005?
  • Upgrade Video Card Driver to a Certified Driver. View the current list of tested adapters and drivers
  • Important: We recommend that you turn off any anti-virus software while you install SolidWorks. This will prevent any of the SolidWorks components from installing incorrectly.
  • Important: We recommend that you save copies of all SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and drawings before opening them in SolidWorks 2005. Once converted and saved, these documents are no longer accessible in previous versions of SolidWorks software.
  • Important: If you have edited document templates, sheet formats, or palette items from a previous release, you should make a backup of files before installing SolidWorks 2005.
When I am installing SolidWorks 2005 do I choose Upgrade or a New installation?
  • We recommend that you upgrade. This way, your settings and templates will propagate to the new version of SolidWorks.
  • Doing a new install also involves more work (i.e. setting up templates etc.).
