CONVERT VIEW TO SKETCH
While working in SOLIDWORKS drawing we have option for “CONVERT VIEW TO SKETCH”
Right click inside a drawing view -> convert view to sketch
It’s a simple yet useful tool. Basically, it helps the user to convert a view into sketch.
While converting we have 3 options-
- Replace view with sketch
- Replace view with block
- Insert as a block
REPLACE VIEW WITH SKETCH – This option will convert current view into a sketch. Once its converted into sketch if the view is scaled it will consider the actual dimension of the line.
REPLACE VIEW WITH BLOCK – It will convert the sketch view into a block, if any changes required we can edit the block.
INSERT AS A BLOCK – It will keep the original view as it is and make a copy as a block with user defined insertion point which can also adjust parameters such as scale and rotation
A client approached for a feature where he can compare 2 similar type objects to see wots the difference.
There are many options in SOLIDWORKS where we compare two similar objects in 3d and in drawings. Some example such as
DRAW COMPARE /WE CAN WORK WITH MULTIBODY (combine options) etc.
But in this case, he insisted on more as a block option as he was well-versed with working on block to compare. Luckily, we have option in drawing to convert view into sketch.
We can make block of the 2-front part, change color for better visualization, since it is a block we can give relations to adjust the drawing as per our requirement.
Note- For some this might not be the ideal way so it’s up to your workflow and design technique how you go about it/what option you use.Posted in: blogs
